Published Oct. 2, 2009 at 10:24 p.m.

Fire Prevention Week observances in Wichita begin today, with a fire safety education fair at Old Cowtown, 1865 Museum Blvd.

The fair, which begins at 9 a.m., will allow area grade school students to learn about fire safety, watch a rescue demonstration and practice an escape out of a smoke-filled room. Students will also be able to tour the sites of Old Cowtown.

All fifth-grade students throughout the city and county and surrounding areas are invited to attend a fire prevention adventure at Sedgwick County Zoo at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Students will be able to interact with firefighters and safety personnel and participate in fire prevention and safety activities.
