Police: Kan. slaying suspect caught after standoff

A Topeka homicide suspect who is accused of shooting a Marshall County deputy Monday before taking refuge in a stranger's home gave up Tuesday morning after an overnight standoff.

Steven A. Macomber, 43, surrendered around 6:45 a.m. after spending the night at a woman's home in Blue Rapids, a town of about 1,400 residents 40 miles north of Manhattan.

He is a suspect in the shooting death of Ryan Lofton, 26, of Topeka, whose body was found in the driveway of a Topeka home around 5 p.m. Monday.
