Blustery Friday for Wichita area

Published May 7, 2010 at 12:50 p.m.

Winds are howling already in the Wichita area today, the opening day of the Wichita River Festival.

A wind advisory is in effect for 14 counties in central and eastern Kansas until noon today, with northerly winds blowing steadily in the 20s around Wichita and gusting to nearly 40 mph. These winds are trailing a cold front that moved through the area overnight, forecasters say.

High temperatures should reach the low 70s under sunny skies. Overnight lows will dip to the mid-40s. The weekend should offer a dry Saturday and a chance of showers on Mother’s Day, with highs in the 60s.
