Shockers drop MVC opener

NORMAL, Ill. — Wichita State survived the O Show in the first half. In the second half, the Shockers couldn’t keep pace with Illinois State’s Osiris Eldridge.

Illinois State handled WSU 72-57 with Eldridge scoring 26 points on Tuesday night in the Missouri Valley Conference opener at Redbird Arena. The loss halted WSU’s nine-game winning streak.

Eldridge spent warmups sinking jumpers with headphones on, buried in his preparation for the game. Once the game started, the Shockers couldn’t take him out of that comfort zone. He made 9 of 15 shots, 6 of 9 from three-point range. When he didn’t shoot, he drew so much attention that other Redbirds got open and he found them for five assists.
